Find A Medically Assisted Treatment Near You

Medically assisted treatment centers are becoming extremely popular for treating addiction and chemical dependency. With the current national opioid epidemic and so many people needing help with addiction, researchers are narrowing down the most effective forms of treatment. Studies are suggesting that medically assisted treatment, or MAT, is having the highest success rates. In the past, MAT has been controversial because people considered it trading one addiction for another. This simply is not the case. MAT is introducing people to recovery and improving their lives. If you want to gain control of your life with treatment that is scientifically proven to be effective, then give us a call today.

What Is Medically Assisted Treatment?

Medically assisted treatment is a form of addiction treatment that involves medically supervised detoxification combined with medication and therapy. The use of medication enables a person to stop using their drug of choice painlessly and replace it with a less harmful substitute. The medication can either be used to taper down in increments or used as a maintenance drug. Instead of the dreadful routine of chasing illegal drugs to avoid withdrawal, which can be tampered with or dangerous, a medication to prevent withdrawal is prescribed by a doctor and obtained legally through a pharmacy. This will allow you to gradually gain control back over your life, work a job, and pay the bills.

MAT is most commonly used for opioid addiction or alcoholism. This is because there are no FDA approved medications to treat marijuana or stimulant addiction. For opioids, there are several medications that can be administered as a substitute to opioids. These medications prevent withdrawal and cravings without producing a euphoric high. There are similar medications for alcohol, which can prevent the pleasant effects produced by alcohol if one were to drink.

More traditional forms of treatment often consist of 28 day programs. A person is rapidly taken off of drugs and then expected to stay sober. These forms of rehab are simply ineffective at bringing about true recovery. The reason MAT is so successful is because it keeps people in treatment longer. Slower and longer treatment programs are proven to be most effective. If you think about it, it often takes months or years to develop an addiction, so it would be unlikely that an addiction could be cured in a few weeks. The theory behind medically assisted treatment is to gradually bring a person to complete sobriety with the support of therapists and doctors.

Medication-assisted treatment is proving to be the most effective way to treat opioid addiction. Opioid users who choose MAT programs are more likely to complete treatment, attend support groups, and achieve long-term sobriety. There may be an MAT program in your own town, which could allow you to still attend work or school while receiving comprehensive addiction treatment. You don’t always have to put your life on hold to treat addiction. This is another reason why MAT can be so useful and why we want to help you find a medically assisted center near you.
